The past week warmed up each day to the upper 80’s but the forecast now is for a bit cooler, like in the low to mid 80’s. Farmers are busy at it, picking corn and heading for their silo’s or the grain elevator. We need rain bad but I’m sure the farmers are thinking otherwise.
Congratulations to Damian Pohlman and Courtney Holland who were wed on Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Norbert’s Church in Hardin. A reception, dinner and dance followed later in the day at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Damien is the son of Brett and Sue Pohlman and Courtney the daughter of Marty and Tammy Holland, all of Hardin. Grandparents are Larry and Barb Pohlman of Brussels, Dr. Bernard and Joan Baalman of Jerseyville and Gene and Rosie Sagez of Hardin.
Congratulations to Sam Ficker and Sydney Hagen who were wed on Saturday at the Post Commons in Alton. A reception, dinner and dance followed at the Bluff City Banquet Hall on Broadway. Sydney is the daughter of Kevin Hagen of Godfrey and Jackie Shortal of Jerseyville. Grandparents are Gary (and the late Kathy) Fortschneider and Carolyn “Annie” (and the late Kenneth) Hagen, all of Brussels.
Congratulations to Mike and Pam Schulte of Jerseyville area who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary over the weekend. The event was held at the Country Club in Jerseyville with all seven of their children and their families in attendance. Attending from Golden Eagle was their oldest son Tony, wife Kelly and daughter Kayley Schulte. Many more happy and healthy years ahead to the Schulte’s!
On Thursday, September 21, Chelsie Kiel of Brussels celebrated her birthday. She enjoyed birthday lunch at the Riverdock with a couple of her friends and dinner that evening was at a Mexican Restaurant with many family members. Afterwards they all attended the soccer game of their twins Stevie and Charlie. Many more “happy ones” Chelsie!
Marie Held enjoyed many family members visiting her over the weekend. Rae and Jean Payne of Bloomington, Jim and Sharon Held of Alton and Bob and Bonnie Held. Bob celebrated his birthday on Thursday with Rae & Jean and cousin Tom Held. Many more “happy ones” Bob!
The 2nd Annual Memorial Jeep Run (in memory of Lydia Carnes, daughter of John and Julie Carnes was held on Saturday. After the six stops on their Scavenger Hunt everyone gathered at the 3rd Chute Bar and Restaurant on Fosterburg Road in Alton. There they were joined by many relatives and friends to bid on Silent Auction items, raffle baskets, 50/50 drawing, etc. Many from Calhoun and beyond were in attendance for the event. Thanks to everyone that helped in some way to make this day such a successful event. Lydia is the daughter of John and Julie Carnes of Edwardsville, sister of Hannah and Caleb Carnes, grandma Carol Sue Carnes of Brussels and grandpa Francis Toppmeyer of Golden Eagle.
