Thanksgiving Day the weather was beautiful but it sure has went downhill ever since. Now in the upper 30’s and lows in the upper 20’s. Just not ready for this cold weather yet.
Congratulations to Colton Snyders and Emma Radcliffe on the birth of their first child born on September 5, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Glen Carbon. The infant, weighing 7 lbs. 6 ozs and 21-1.2 inches long has been given the name Emberliegh Ann. Grandparents are Tom Radcliffe and Cassie Radcliffe and Joe and Tammi Snyders. Great grandparents Bernie and Gloria Snyders, all of Golden Eagle.
I drove to Chesterfield, MO on Thursday morning and enjoyed Thanksgiving Dinner at the Axford home. So much delicious food for just the five of us. Trevor was working at Advent Health Hospital in Orlando, FL area for two weeks to do heart surgery while staff physicians were on holiday break. Enjoying the dinner with Cyndi was her daughter MacKenzie , daughter and son-in-law Madison and David Morrow and me. That evening Madison and David treated us to looking at a couple hundred photos of their wedding, reception and dance. The photos were online but they were able to show them on the TV screen. Lots of great pictures and memories to last a lifetime. On Friday afternoon us gals did a bit of Christmas shopping and then I returned home on Saturday. Thanks, Cyndi, for the invitation and the wonderful time we all spent together.
November 8 through 11, Bernie and Gloria Snyders of Golden Eagle, accompanied by Mary Lee Rose and Gary Fortschneider, both of Brussels spent time in Branson. They attended five music shows, sightseeing in the area and also a bit of shopping. While at one of the shows they ran into Denny and Rosie Kiel of Meppen. It appears quite a few from Calhoun enjoyed time in Branson, especially for the Christmas shows and light displays.
Colleen Bussen of St. Peters, MO, wife of the late John Bussen, and her family entertained descendants of the late Vincent and Bernice Bussen at a Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday at her home. Present from South Calhoun were Francis Toppmeyer, Bill and Joan Held and Willie and Renee Rose and family, all of Golden Eagle. The event was also to celebrate the 70th Birthday of Marge Bussen.
Roy and Barb Hagen, along with their family Elaine and Lee Mans, Judy and Kenny Devening, Dave and Kara Hagen and all their families enjoyed Saturday afternoon and evening with another sibling Jan and Derrick Bick and family in O’Fallon, MO. Lots of great food, visiting, photo taking, etc. were enjoyed by all.
Bernie and Gloria Snyders, Dan and Marla Snyders and Joe and Tammi Snyders and their families enjoyed Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday with Bernie and Gloria’s other son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Susie Snyders and family in Orchard Farm, MO.
Pat and Vera Droege hosted their annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hall in Meppen. Many members of Vera’s immediate family from Indiana, Chicago and Florida, together with the Heffington and Droege family enjoyed the day together. So much great food and fellowship was enjoyed throughout the day.
Barb Ward of Decatur spent the Thanksgiving holidays with her mother, Marie Held and other family members.
Thanksgiving and the birthday of Daniel Baecht was celebrated at the home of Yvonne Baecht on Saturday. Present were Keith and Becky Baecht, Matthew and Samuel of Jerseyville and Daniel and LeAnn Baecht and Connor of Brookline, MO. On Thanksgiving Day Yvonne was a dinner guest of longtime friends Donnie and Rosie Bennett in O’Fallon, MO.
Betty Rose of Golden Eagle celebrated her 90th Birthday on Sunday with an Open House at the Brussels American Legion Hall. The event was hosted by her family Susan Barnett, Mary (John) Ohlendorf, Carolyn Rose, Mike (Sharon) Rose, Mark (Dianne) Rose and Larry and Tom Rose and their families. Lots of great food, birthday cake and beverages were served to the many in attendance. Many more “happy and healthy ones” Betty.
St. Mary’s Altar Society meeting and Christmas dinner will be held on Friday evening, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. at the church hall. Attendees are asked to bring baby items or cash a donation for St. Vincent DePaul in Hardin.
J. L. Krafts & Flowers Open House is Dec. 2 and 3 (Saturday and Sunday) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Jerri Lynne invites you to come to see her many crafts, silk flower arrangements, live Poinsettia’s, etc. available for sale.

She is survived by her husband Carl of 63 years. Children Erna (Mike) Halemeyer, Mary (Jason) Hoemmen, Jim (Acinda) Eschbach, Deborah (Lloyd) DeSherlia and Jerry (Michelle) Eschbach. Also brother Pat (Vera) Droege, sisters Joan Bonner, Gerry (Bill) Schleeper, Rosemary (Gene) Sagez and their families.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Karen Baltisberger who passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22. On Saturday, Dec. 2 visitation will be held at Gress, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Brussels from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass, Saturday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. She is survived by her siblings, Pat Jacobs, Dorothy Arnold, John (Diane) Baltisberger and Mary (Mark) Lakin and their families.

Lord Jesus, in this season of Advent prepare us to celebrate Your blessed incarnation. Illumine our minds and hearts, ignite our spirits so that we may welcome You in genuine love and faithfulness. May the Holy Spirit embrace us with His presence so that we may live sanctified lives and reflect Your Advent light in all we say and do. Amen
