Barbara Spann | 81 | Pittsfield

Barbara Spann, age 81, of Pittsfield, IL, passed away on Sunday Dec. 3, 2023 at the Liberty Village in Pittsfield, IL. She was born on March 24, 1942 in Pittsfield, IL to Leslie and Lena Reeves Bauer.
Barb was raised on a farm in rural Pittsfield and continued farming with her husband Wilbur for many years. She attended Pittsfield schools, graduating in 1960. In her youth she was active in 4-H and the local fairs.
Barb started her working career at the M & D grocery store for a few years and then went on to drive a bus for Pikeland Unit 10 for over 30 years retiring in 2009. She drove the Jacksonville route, transporting the students there and back home daily. Over the years she developed lifelong friendships in Jacksonville and enjoyed her group of ladies at the Jacksonville YMCA and their potluck dinners. These friendships lasted long after her retirement.
Barb loved country music and attending country music shows. She enjoyed her trips to Branson, the Class of 1960 monthly luncheons, and hitting up a good yard sale. She was an avid reader and liked to play cards, and never passed up a Sunday drive. She was a hard worker, practical, and had a good sense of humor. She loved her son and his family big, always enjoying the time spent with them.
Barbara is survived by her son Mike (Karrie) Spann of Milton, IL; one grandson Jayson (Elizabeth Keith) Spann of Milton, IL; two brothers, Phil (Janice) Bauer of Pittsfield, IL and Mark (Mary) Bauer of South Lake, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and former husband, Wilbur Spann.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday Dec. 7, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Gray Cemetery, New Salem, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Gray Cemetery or the Pike County Animal Shelter.
