Hard to believe it’s December already. Starting out this Monday morning at 37 degrees with a high predicted of 48. By Thursday up to 60 degrees so those who still have outdoor decorations to put up, this is the pick day of the week.
Jerri Lynne Klemme’s “J. L. Krafts & Flowers” Open House was well attended on Saturday and Sunday. Lots of beautiful silk floral arrangements, painted signs, fresh poinsettias, etc. And of course like every year in the past, after making your purchase you enjoyed wonderful snacks and homemade cookies, candies and even angel food cake. Many thanks Jerri Lynne, enjoyed visiting with you on Saturday.
Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus made their appearance on Sunday evening at the Brussels Village Hall. This event was sponsored by Angie Willman and Modern Woodmen. Enjoyed seeing so many children on Facebook with their picture taken with Santa and his wife. I’m sure they had their long list ready for him and told him how good they had been all year.
This coming Friday and Saturday, Glenda Sidwell oat her new flower shop in Kampsville, is having an Open House Friday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. She is offering 10% off cash and carry items. She also has lots of beautiful crafts, etc. for sale.
On Friday I drove to Maryland Heights, MO and was a guest of my son, John Carnes, at his SAFA (St. Louis Food Association) Christmas luncheon and party. This marks 12 years I have been his guest and each year I look forward to it. The buffet meal was delicious and also so nice to visit with friends I have made over the years. Gift exchange followed and then a rousing game of Let’s Make a Deal. Thanks again John, I really enjoyed the afternoon.
This coming Sunday, Dec. 10, is the Children’s Christmas Program at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels. Come join us for the 10 a.m. service telling of the Birth of Jesus, along with beautiful Christmas songs performed by the children. Everyone is welcome.
Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10, is the Calhoun Entertainment Company Christmas Concert. It is held in the Presbyterian Church Hall in Hardin beginning at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterwards. This year also features a Youth Choir for the first time.
Congratulations to Sinclair Foods in Jerseyville, IL. They are a family owned, local grocery store. Stan and Shirley Sinclair recently received First Place in the Best Supermarket Category of this year’s Best of the Best readers’ choice awards held at Lewis and Clark Community College Hatheway Cultural Center on Friday night. This contest is sponsored by The Telegraph and the Edwardsville Intelligencer every year.
Deepest sympathy to the families who have lost loved ones recently. The funeral Mass of Pauline Eschbach was held last Monday, Nov. 27, at St. Mary’s Church in Brussels and the funeral Mass of Karen Baltisberger was held on Saturday, Dec. 2, also at St. Mary’s. So sad to lose a loved one during the holidays. My husband, Charles “Sam” passed away on Dec. 20, 2011 and the holidays have never been the same since.
Birthday Blessings this week to my niece Stephanie (Carnes) Davis, Shane Macauley, Bob Kiel, Rosie Wreath, Leroy Zimmerman, Jeanine (Carnes) Meinen, Brent Kirn, Mike Halemeyer and all others celebrating their natal day this week.
Happy 50th Anniversary to Dave and Mary Kirn and Happy 46th Anniversary to Paul and Mary Lou Goetze, also Roger and Michelle Hagen, Pat and Sharon Friedel and all other couples celebrating a wedding anniversary this week.
My Prayer for all of you
as you prepare for this
May God grant you the light of Christmas, which is faith; the warmth of Christmas, which is purity; the righteousness of Christmas, which is justice, the belief in Christmas, which is truth; and the all of Christmas, which is Christ. As you prepare for Christmas please stop to remember, Jesus is the reason for the season. Amen
