Ella Karen (DeUel) Gross, 80, of Jerseyville Illinois, passed away on November 25, 2023. She was born on May 8, 1943, in Alton Illinois, to Earle and Leona (Weeks) DeUel.
Ella is survived by her sister, Una Dunsing; brother, Ed and Mary DeUel, and sister, Eva and Larry Gardner; five children: Vanessa and Danny Gress of Hardin, Illinois, Norman Douglas and Jerri of Belton, Texas, Valarie Larralde and Diane of Belton, Texas, Loretta Green and Johnny of Belton, Texas, and Raymond Gross of Carlinville, Illinois. Ella had well over 20 grandchildren and several great grands! Joyce Evans of Jerseyville, Illinois, Carbella and Billy Brown of Belton, Texas, and George and Beverly Smith of Belton, Texas; and “Smoky” Smith of Belton, Texas. She had several good friends, but a couple stand out for their love and time spent with her, Irma Crisswell of Hardin, Illinois and Marci Davis of Jerseyville Illinois. Your time and love are extremely appreciated.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gross; and some years later life partner, George Smith; her parents, Earl and Leona DeUel; sister, Mryna Johnson; sister, Sharon and Clippy Hewitt; granddaughter, Karen Gross Hernandez; grandsons, Jason and Brian Madison; and (Charlie Evans and Loran Douglas).
Ella attended East Elementary in Jerseyville, Illinois, and Jerseyville High School. She then embarked on a successful career, managing several convenience stores before becoming the manager of an apartment complex in Belton, Texas.
In her free time, Ella enjoyed sewing and doing crafts. She had a talent for creating various crafts and took pleasure in giving them as gifts to her friends and family. Ella cherished the moments spent with her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor Ella’s life will be held at a later date, to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of your choice in Ella’s memory.
