Virginia M. Mortland | 96 | Hardin

Virginia M. Mortland, 96, of Hardin, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Pearl, IL on Feb. 2, 1928, to the late Wallace and Mabel (Akers) Lewis.
Virginia married Kenneth W. Mortland on Feb. 27, 1949, in Alton, IL. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2007.
She was a member of Indian Creek Church of Christ in Hamburg. Virginia worked as an RN, school nurse, and a homemaker. She worked at Alton Memorial Hospital, School Nurse in Calhoun, Calhoun Nursing Home, and as a nurse for Doctor Baalman.
Virginia is survived by three sons, Lionel (Frances) Mortland, Myron (Patti) Mortland, and Darrell (Steph) Mortland; one daughter, Karen (Dale) Krueger; one sister, Janet (Roger) Bonnett; 10 grandchildren, Dawna (Robbie) Egelhoff, Ryan (Carlee) Mortland, Jennifer (Joe) Boyd, Amanda (Jeremiah) McCarver, Joshua (Katie) Mortland, Michael (Lori) Mortland, Matthew (Emily) Mortland, Mary Beth (Chip) Johnson, Brent (Kim) Krueger, and Kendra (Lance) Campion; 22 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Teresa Mortland; and two siblings, Wallace “Bud” Lewis Jr., and Mary Mortland
Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin.
Funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Indian Creek Church of Christ.
Burial followed at Indian Creek Cemetery.
