Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation hosted their annual Families of Distinction Banquet and Training last week at the Civic Center in Gillespie.
Executive Director Stephanie Stahlhut said the annual banquet allows the IVEDC to recognize local families and individuals they work with.
“This year we honored 15 families that showed resilience and significant progress toward stability and self-sufficiency,” she said. “We honored ten individuals with a Personal Achievement Award, four Community Services Block Grant Scholarships and one individual with the Family of Distinction Award.”
This year award recipients Kimberly Bornemann, Janet Burkhart, Elexis Coates and Tim Camden.
Bornemann was awarded a Personal Achievement Award from Tri-County Rural Transit Program for her steps toward a healthy lifestyle.
Burkhart was awarded a Personal Achievement Award from the Senior Nutrition Program for her steps toward a healthy lifestyle and living independently in her home.
Coates was awarded a Personal Achievement Award from the Early Head Start Program for her steps toward self- sufficiency in her career and lifestyle.
Camden was awarded a Personal Achievement Award from the Community Day Services Program due to his outstanding attitude and hard work at the program.
Keyton Wollenweber was named as IVEDC’s scholarship recipient. Wollenweber will be attending Lewis and Clark Community College for an Associates in Science with a focus in welding.
Other award recipients were Tonia Hull from Macoupin County who was awarded a Personal Achievement Award from the Homecare Program for her steps toward a healthy lifestyle and living independently in her home.
Harvey Bettis was awarded a Personal Achievement Award from the Senior Nutrition Program for living independently in his home. Harvey will be 104 in May.
Chris Lindsey was awarded a Personal Achievement Award from the Gillespie CDS Program. Chris was awarded this due to his hard work and dedication. Chris has learned many job skills while a client at the Gillespie CDS.
Jody Siar and his family were awarded a personal achievement award from the CSBG/Housing Programs. Jody was awarded this due to working towards self sufficiency and getting safe stable housing for him and his family.
Jenalen Parke and her daughter Bailey were awarded a personal achievement award from the Weatherization Program. Jenalen has worked hard in her career goals and raising her daughter.
Kayla Frayer was awarded the Family of Distinction Award from the Head Start Program. Kayla was awarded this due to her fight against addiction, housing and career goals.
