Three fire departments responded to the Pittsfield Township building on West Washington last Tuesday for a fire that started when an employee pulled through the lot with the bed on the dump truck in the up right position. The bed hook a power line and when the power line broke, it sent sparks into the insulation.
The middle of the long Pittsfield Township building caught fire last week after an employee accidentally snagged a power line with the raised bed of a dump truck.
Pittsfield Fire Department, with the help of Griggsville, Perry and East Pike battled the blaze for approximately three hours and Pittsfield returned later that afternoon for a re-kindle.
Pittsfield Township Road Commissioner Kirby Hobbs said the price of repairs and replacement could top $250,000
“The trusses on the building are damaged and they have to be replaced and the the insurance company wants the the roof replaced 30 feet each way from the damaged area,” Hobbs said. “As of now we have no electricity to the front of the building.”
Hobbs said that the walls around the portion of the building will have to come down when the trusses are replaced the insurance company has said they will replace the walls rather than try to reconstruct them.”
The new electrical service will be installed and the electricians will bore under the concrete to get electrical service to the front of the building.
“That alone will cost $25,000,” Hobbs said.
No time line has been given for the start of the clean-up or the re-construction
