Some of the new play equipment bought with grant money at Fry Park in Carrollton that will be celebrated this Saturday at a free event at the park from noon to 3 p.m. along with a free swim at the Carrollton pool.
It has been quite a while coming together, but the Carrollton Park and Recreation Board is finally ready to celebrate all of the improvements made at Fry Park, the majority of them thanks to grants applied for and received by the city.
On Saturday, June 21, the public is invited to a free event from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the park with events scheduled for all members of the family, including a free swim day at the Carrollton Pool.
“We have been very fortunate to have received the OSLAD (Open Spaces Lands Acquisition and Development) grant and private donations for work done at Fry Park,” Carrollton Council and Park Board Member Peggy Clough said.
“The Park Board members are really happy with the new improvements. We have made a lot of progress and we hope you enjoy what has been completed, but there is more to come.”
These improvements include a batting cage, pickleball courts, refurbished restrooms, play stations for the kids and a 1/3 mile walking path that will eventually connect to the bike path.
The pickle ball courts were made possible by an OSLAD as well as Tom and Suzanne Hough with the Carrollton Bank and Doug Bystry, a former Carrollton resident and CEO of Clearinghouse CDFI.
In addition to the free swimming, there will also be two bounce houses for the kids, free games, hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones.
