The Calhoun County Swimming Pool Association is currently in the tear out phase of the Hardin Pool with the removal of the old to prepare for the next phase of reconstruction. With the new plumbing going in as early as next week . After having to close mid season in 2023 due to a leak that caused the pool water to be unclear.
“The funds have been obtained through grants for the reconstruction. But the hold up was getting the permits back from the State to begin any of the work. Now that we have those it’s officially started we plan to have the pool up and running by Summer of 2026,” said Association President Dick Leiber.
It will be the same pool but instead of painting it every year it will have a liner. Other improvements will be new deck, bathroom renovation to include handicap accessible as well as making the parking lot handicap accessible.
The Hardin Pool relies on admission fees, generous donations and their biggest contribution the food stand at the Calhoun County Fair with the help of volunteers to keep up the expenses of chemicals, electricity and paying for the lifeguards.
The Hardin Pool on an average has around 50 plus kids daily and families who utilize it and it’s always affordable for the kids because the association doesn’t want anyone to not get to enjoy it. Thanks to the generosity of area businesses and individuals many days are Free Swim Days. Before closing in 2023 they were having about three to four Free Swim Days a week.
The Calhoun Swimming Pool Association consists of President Dick Leiber, Kate Sievers,Craig Johnson, Cheri Burris, Lisa Kallal, Nate Sagez and Kellee Eilerman.
