Another methamphetamine user is going behind bars after pleading guilty to possession charges in Greene County Court on Aug. 25.
Greene County States Attorney Craig M. Grummel announced that Eugene A. Covington, 54, was sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following his conviction for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.
The sentencing took place on Aug. 25 before Judge Zachary Schmidt in Greene County Circuit Court.
Covington pled guilty to possession of less than five grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, a Class 3 Felony under Illinois law. The offense occurred on April 4, 2024 in Greene County.
Covington was represented by Greene County Public Defender Elliott Turpin.
Grummel emphasized that his office remains committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting Greene County communities from the dangers of methamphetamine and other controlled substances.
