The Carrollton St. John Lady Redbirds are the 1A Regional Champs after narrowly defeating cross-town rival Carrollton Lady Hawks Saturday, 7-6, in the Regional final. The game was down to the wire and the Lady Hawks had a runner on third when Lady Redbird pitcher Kyleigh Schmidt struck out the last batter ending the game and giving the Lady Redbirds the win. On Thursday, the ladies played Greenfield-Northwestern in another close game, defeating the Wildcats, 7-5, to earn a berth in the Championship game. On their way to the Championship game of the 1A Regional, the St. John’s Lady Redbirds had to first defeat the Greenfield/Northwestern Lady Wildcats in the semi-finals. It was a close game, but the Lady Redbirds came out on top 7-5 to earn a chance to play in the championship game on Saturday. On Saturday they came up against crosstown rival the Carrollton Lady Hawks and it was an even closer game with the Lady Redbirds edging the Lady Hawks 7-6 to claim the Regional Title.
