Jordy Ray had four hits and scored three runs to lead West Central to a 14-4 win over Brown County Sept. 17 in the championship game of the Virginia 8-2A IESA Baseball regional.
The Cougars finished the season 15-3 after losing to Springfield Christian 5-1 in the sectional.
Brown County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the regional.
West Central scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and took the lead with four runs in the third inning.
Maddox Chapman walked to lead of the bottom of the first inning and scored when Colby Pratt reached on an error.
Ray singled with two outs in the third inning, Easton Van Tuyle walked and Mason Stocker was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hudson Little doubled and drove in two runs and tied the game at 3 all. Two more runs scored when Chapman reached on an error, and West Central led 5-3.
The Cougars added five more runs in the fourth inning and two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Knox Vortman doubled and drove in a run and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning. Ray and Van Tuyle each singled and drove in runs in the inning.
Ray finished 4-for-5 with a double, drove in two runs and stole three bases for the Cougars.
Vortman went 2-for-5 with a double, scored one run and drove in one run. Little went 1-for-3 with a double, scored one run and drove in two runs. Van Tuyle went 1-for-3, scored two runs and drove in one run.
Jace Fryman went 1-for-2 and drove in one run. Brock Fuhler went 1-for-3 and drove in one run.
Colby Pratt scored two runs and drove in one run. Chapman scored two runs. Stocker and Maysin Alexander each scored one run.
Pratt pitched five innings and allowed three hits and one run to pick up the victory. He struck out four. Alexander pitched one inning.
