The Jersey Community High School (JCHS) wrestling program has officially unveiled its newly updated Wall of Fame. It is a modern tribute to the program’s most accomplished athletes. The new display, located in the multipurpose “wrestling” room, replaces a painted wall with a sharp, professional-looking collection of PVC plaques.
The new Wall of Fame recognizes wrestlers across three distinct categories:
■ The 100-Win Club: Honoring those who achieved 100 or more career victories.
■ Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Champions: Celebrating wrestlers who won individual conference titles.
■ State Qualifiers: Commemorating every wrestler who earned a spot at the Illinois State Tournament.
JCHS Head Wrestling Coach, Frank Speidel, explained the significance of the project. “This wall is an investment in the history of the program, but also in the future,” he said. “Wrestlers have something to strive for. They really want a spot on the wall.” Space has been left on the wall for future Wall of Fame recognition. This is the last season of competition in the Mississippi Valley Conference. The MVC will disband at the end of the ‘25-’26 school year. Space has been made available on the wall for future champions in the Cahokia Conference that Jersey will join next year.
The previous Wall of Fame had names painted directly onto the wall, which has faded over time. The new PVC plaques provide a durable and clean-looking display, ensuring that the accomplishments of past wrestlers are honored with the respect they deserve.
To celebrate the unveiling and honor the athletes, the JCHS coaching staff is inviting all honorees to a special reception. The event will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 5 p.m., in the wrestling room. Following the reception, the team will host its annual wrestle-offs in the gym, providing a chance for the community to see the current Panthers in action as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The new Wall of Fame not only celebrates the rich history of Jersey wrestling but also serves as an inspiration for the next generation of athletes to build upon the program’s legacy.
The season will kick off on November 25 for both the boys and girls teams. The boys will travel to face Belleville East, and the girls will wrestle in a scramble at JCHS.
