Evynn Gregory made two free throws with 11 seconds remaining in overtime, and West Central beat PORTA/A-C Central 63-61 in girls’ basketball Nov. 25 at Bluffs.
The Bluejays missed a shot in the final seconds, and Gregory came away with the rebound to seal the win.
PORTA/A-C Central led 43-39 with 1 minute remaining in the third quarter, but the Cougars (3-0) tied the game.
Ali Little made one of two free throws to cut the margin to three points. Ellie Wahl made a three-point basket with 26 remaining, and the game was tied at 43 after three quarters.
The game was tied at 48 before West Central scored the next five points.
Wahl made two free throws, and Little made as the Cougars led 53-48 with 2:46 remaining in regulation.
Little made two more throws, and West Central led 55-51 with 1:39 remaining.
West Central missed four free throws in the final 45 seconds. PORTA/A-C Central scored with 21 seconds remaining to tie the game at 55 and force overtime.
Gregory scored off an assist from Little to start overtime. PORTA/A-C Central made two free throws, and the game was tied at 57.
Paisley Sturtevant made a three-point basket off an assist from Little, and West Central led 60-57 with 2:40 remaining. After PORTA/A-C Central cut the margin to 60-59, Little made a free throw with 1:45 remaining.
PORTA/A-C Central tied the game at 61 with 34 seconds remaining, and Gregory’s gave West Central the lead for good.
The game was tied at 20 after one quarter, and PORTA/A-C Central led 25-23 in the second. Sturtevant made a three-point basket, and Little scored four points as the Cougars took a 30-25 lead at halftime.
Little scored 25 points and went 13-for-18 from the free throw line to lead West Central. She also had eight rebounds and three assists. Gregory scored 13 points and had five rebounds.
Sturtevant scored nine points and had four assists and four rebounds. Wahl scored nine points and had four assists.
Adrienne Kaufmann scored five points. Sofie Grubb scored two points and had seven rebounds.
