The Southwestern Hoof N Horn 4-H Club of Jersey County was able to supply 13 families in the Southwestern and Jersey School districts with Thanksgiving meal baskets full of everything from the turkey to the sides.
4-H members partnered with several generous community members to help make the service project a reality.
Sara Beckman with 4-H said it was a project that kept on giving after the club partnered with Bagley Farms Meat Market in the Spring for their meat sale fundraiser and then used the funds to purchase the turkey and sides for the Thanksgiving project.
The club also partnered with Julie’s Graphics for the meat sale and worked with Randy Darr of Shipman to smoke all 13 turkeys in preparation for Thanksgiving. To show their appreciation for Darr’s time and effort, the club also donated toward his upcoming mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
Families from the Southwestern Hoof N Horn 4-H Club each adopted a basket and supplied all the side dishes, rolls, and Ginger Bean Cookie Kits to complete the meal. The club said they hope these baskets bring comfort and a warm holiday meal to the families who receive them.
