The Scott-Morgan Community Unit School District held a truth-in-taxation hearing Dec. 8 and the news for tax payers was not a bad as feared.
Taxing bodies must hold a truth-in-taxation hearing anytime as levy is expected to be more than five percent of the previous year’s levy.
“We ran a $200,000 deficit last year,” Brandy Pennock, who will assume superintendent duties later this year after the retirement of Kevin Blankenship, said. “We had originally thought we would have to increase our levy 16 percent,but, the amount was less.”
The board is asking for a 12 percent increase in the tax levy, which should alleviate the districts financial shortfall.
“That should do it,” Pennock said.” If all of our other sources of revenue, state, federal, grants etc, come through, it should be enough.”
No one attended the hearing which was held Dec. 8 at 5:45 p.m..
