Smith sentenced in Greene County

Greene County States Attorney Craig M. Grummel announced that Dale A. Smith, Jr., 37, has been sentenced to a term of eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following his convictions for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine in Greene County cases in October of 2022.
Smith previously entered an open plea of guilty to two Class 3 felony counts of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine in October of 2023. According to Judici, he was sentenced to 30 months probation in these cases.
Following a Petition to Revoke Probation and a subsequent sentencing hearing, the Court imposed a sentence of eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on each count, to be served concurrently, with credit for time served. Smith was also recommended for a substance abuse program while in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Grummel emphasized that the sentence was the result of arguments presented by the State at the sentencing hearing outlining Smith’s criminal history, prior opportunities on probation and community supervision, and multiple prior sentences to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
“This defendant had been given numerous opportunities through probation, treatment and prior terms of incarceration,” Grummel said. “Despite those opportunities, he continued to engage in criminal conduct, including conduct that occurred while he was on probation in these cases. The sentence imposed reflects the seriousness of that history and the need to protect the community.”
The Greene County State’s Attorney’s Office would like to thank the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and arrest of this defendant. Their continued work in investigating narcotics offenses and monitoring offenders on community supervision remains critical to public safety in Greene County.
