Team effort leads Cougars to win over Payson

Three players scored in double figures, and West Central beat Payson 60-43 in boys’ basketball Feb. 10 at Bluffs.
Payson led 29-28 at halftime and 31-30 early in the third quarter.
Cooper Eddinger scored after Eli Crain grabbed an offensive rebound, and the Cougars led 32-31. Landon Wahl made a three-point basket and extended the lead to 35-31 with 3:20 remained in the quarter.
Wahl made another three-point basket with two remaining, and West Central led 42-37 after three quarters.
West Central scored the first 11 points of the fourth quarter and extended the lead to 53-37.
Eddinger scored the first six points of the quarter. Nick Hamilton made a three-point basket, and Eddinger scored again to give West Central a 16 point lead with 4:48 remaining in the game.
Both teams made three three-point baskets, and the game was tied 18-all after one quarter.
Payson made three more three-point baskets and led 29-23 in the second quarter. West Central made five free throws, including two each by Blaine Vortman and Wahl, and closed to margin to 29-28 at halftime.
Eddinger scored 18 points to lead West Central. Hamilton scored 14 points, and Wahl scored 11.
Vortman and Gabe Howard each scored six points. Carson Clevenger scored five points.
The Cougars won the junior varsity game 41-31.
Jack Little scored nine points to lead West Central. Wahl scored eight points, and Eli Crain scored seven. Thrice Kirkpatrick and Emerson Little each scored five points. Brody Blevins scored five points, and Daxton Little scored four.
