The Village of Brussels couldn’t possibly fit another person in their gym on Friday night as they held “Alumni Games.” In fact, there was even a group of young students who watched from outside the windows.
They didn’t just entertain with some pretty good alumni games, of all ages both men’s and women’s basketball. They brought out their vintage cheerleaders as well as the young ones. The Alumni band played and even their alumni mascot got involved. During the course of the evening, they also honored Coach Don Snyders and the 1970 Basketball team. These legacy players also shot hoops during the break for the guys to catch their breath between quarters. They paid tribute to Max Taulman. They told the story of how girls basketball came to be at Brussels. They honored their 1000 point players and the 1983 Brussels Raiders Super Sectional team. Coached by Coach Ward, his wife and daughter were both on hand to come out, shake hands and give hugs to his former players.
Interim Superintendent Lori Franke Hopkins and Principal Pam Long, who will be next year’s superintendent ran the festivities for the night.
“This was a fundraiser to help reestablish a PTO at Brussels,” Principal Long said. “I think this should start them out very nicely, I am so thankful for everybody for turning out for such a fun event that shows everyone’s school spirit.”
