Greene County is sentencing more than just drug offenses and sex abuse offences to terms in the Department of Corrections. On March 30, a Greene County woman was sentenced to 4.5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following her conviction for Class 2 Felony Theft.
Greene County States Attorney Craig M. Grummel announced that Kayla G. Justice, 38, has been sentenced to the 4.5-year term in the Illinois Department of Corrections after entering a plea of guilty in Greene County Circuit Court before Judge Zachary Schmidt who handed down the sentence.
The charge stemmed from an incident occurring on or about May 19, 2025 in Greene County in which Justice knowingly exerting unauthorized control over a 2023 Buick SUV belonging to another individual with a value exceeding $10,000.
“This sentence reflects the seriousness of property crimes in our community and sends a clear message that this type of conduct will not be tolerated,” Grummel said. “The theft of a vehicle is a significant violation of personal security and financial stability. Those who choose to engage in this conduct in Greene County should expect to be identified, prosecuted and sent to the Department of Corrections. Our office remains committed to protecting the property rights of our citizens and deterring criminal behavior.”
The Greene County State’s Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Roodhouse Police Department for their work and diligence in investigating this case and ensuring that justice was served.
