Carrollton School Board members approved a nearly $3 million bond resolution that will provide a number of improvements in the district, including the replacement of the aging bleachers in the high school gym.
The $2.83 million in General Obligation Bonds will include demolition of the old bleachers and installation of the new bleachers, removal of the insulation type substance on the ceiling of the high school gym, removal of the remaining asbestos flooring in both the high school and grade school, installing new windows in the high school that weren’t replaced in the last remodel to make the building more energy efficient, updating the media center, new LED lighting, tuckpointing and painting around the district buildings, adding some new classroom doors, mostly at the elementary and some concrete work.
These improvements are part of the Health Life Safety improvements required by the State. The district has been discussing these improvements since February, but the State had to sign off on these improvements since they were considered part of the Health Life Safety improvements and that approval just came through.
“Once school is out, they are going to start the demolition of the old bleachers,” Superintendent Jason Bauer said. “Then, the second week of August, they are going to be here to install the new ones.”
Even though school will be starting soon after the beginning of the install, Bauer said that shouldn’t be a problem because they have no sporting events scheduled until September 10.
“I’m going to meet with Steve (Castleton, Maintenance Supervisor) this week to get a timeline of all these projects so we know when they are going to start,” Bauer said. “But we are not going to have to push back the start of school or anything. Everything is going to be done well in advance of the start of school.”
The board approved an intergovernmental agreement with Lewis and Clark Community College for the 2026-27 school year so that high school students can continue to take dual-credit courses.
With the retirement of Greg Pohlman, who has been serving as Athletic Director, Girls Head Coach Brian Madson will be stepping into that position next year. Madson currently teaches drivers education and physical education.
Following closed session, the board made a number of personnel moves.
