The City of Greenfield has a new full-time police officer. On April 27, Mayor Brock Meyer swore in Officer Terrance Lawson at Greenfield City Hall with Officer Lawson’s family in attendance.
“It is more accurate to say that Officer Lawson is being welcomed back to Greenfield,” Mayor Meyer said. “As the Greenfield community continues to grow, so does our need for a dedicated full-time presence in our police department.”
The full-time position that Officer Lawson is assuming is a commitment to the safety and stability of Greenfield.
“Having a consistent and dedicated officer means better continuity in investigations and shorter response time to calls,” Meyer said. “But, most importantly, it gives our officers and opportunity to build lasting relationships with the residents they serve.”
Officer Lawson was born in Chicago and graduated from Peoria Richwoods High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Kittyhawk.
After his tenure in the armed forces, he continued his education at Elgin Community Collee and obtained his Emergency Medical Technician license.
He also volunteered on the Petersburg Fire Department. While volunteering on the fire department, he obtained employment in the area of loss prevention.
For the past five years, he has served the Greenfield community as a postal letter carrier, which forged relationships with the citizens of Greenfield.
“I am excited to have Officer Lawson join our department,” Greenfield Police Chief Nate Alderfer said. “He lives here in town and will be a major asset to our community. He has, and will continue to forge stronger community relationships with its citizens.
“In the short amount of time that I have worked alongside Officer Lawson, his heart is set on community-oriented policing which is extremely valuable in today’s policing profession.”
Officer Lawson resides in Greenfield and is the father of six.
