Students at Jersey Community Middle School got a chance to think about their future and learn about different academic pursuits and career possibilities at their annual Career Fair in April.
Local professionals from architect to mayor visited JCMS to share their insight about the industries and professions they work in, helping students consider their own professional futures.
Students said their experience at the Career Fair was good and provided them with many opportunities to learn about different perspectives and roles.
They were able to not just learn about the career in general, but also more specific aspects of different paths.
“Like engineering,” Camden said. “There’s different roles besides just engineering. There’s aerospace, mechanical, civil and a bunch of other stuff.”
Kaylee said she was excited to learn about architecture because it’s something she is interested in, but doesn’t know too many details about the career.
“I know they design houses, but I don’t know what you do. Do you need to make and design models,” she said
The day also provided students a chance to take a deeper look and consideration into some of the interests they already have.
One student, Alaina, said she chose to hear from a pharmacist, historian, and journalist, and has developed a strong interest in history. After studying Susan B. Anthony for an assignment, she learned how fun studying history can be and said it’s something she thinks she’ll continue to pursue in the future.
“I want to learn a lot about the past and how some historical characters change the world forever,” Alaina said. “Susan B. Anthony, I like studying her because he just an amazing political figure.”
