The City of Grafton heard an update at the May city council meeting regarding ferry traffic.
George Andres with the Grafton Ferry Task Force told the council that during the month of April, the ferry had 3,516 vehicles in 17 days of operation.
“We had a total of 17 operating days, we lost four during the flooding event,” Andres said. But during that time we had 3,516 vehicle crossings. “
“So that’s an average of 207 vehicles a day. So we went back to compare with our projections,” Andres said. “I had projected that on the Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the summer time that we would average 300 vehicles a day. Then on the weekdays, Monday through Friday, we would average 100 vehicles a day.”
Andres said that everything is so far so good after looking over those 17 days and numbers are higher than projected.
“When you calculate that up over those particular 17 days,” he said. “We’re projecting 182 vehicles per day, in actuality we did 207.”
On the financial side of things, Andres said total revenues were $35,982, and total operational costs were $25,925.
At the time of the meeting, the Grafton Ferry Fund will carry forward $10,088, but fuel invoices had not been included.
Andre said over the weekend of Thursday, May 14, to Sunday, May 17, there was a total of 1,776 crossings in just four days. About half of what was recorded in April.
