The Jerseyville City Council approved a motion to put the 2026-27 appropriations ordinance out for public inspection at their meeting last week.
This year, the total is approximately $27,454,700, which Commissioner of Accounts and Finance Tony Steckel said is a little higher than last year and lower than the year before.
A public hearing will be held for the appropriations ordinance at the council chambers on Tuesday, July 21, at 6 p.m.
An ordinance amending city code regarding vapes/e-cigarettes and alternative nicotine products in vending machines was also approved at the council meeting.
Mayor Kevin Stork said it came up when someone asked about installing an e-cigarette machine, while code only included traditional cigarette vending machines.
The state allows the machines in establishments that serve alcohol, and Mayor Stork said that after consulting with the Chief of Police, it was decided to limit the machines in the city to establishments that are 21 and over due to the concern of children being present in establishments that serve food and alcohol.
Council also approved a recommendation from the TIF Advisory Board for a large project commercial building improvement grant for facade improvements at 209 Washington, as well as a recommendation for a commercial roof grant at 116 West Pearl Street.
It was noted that two roof grants rolled from 2025, this one and another that hadn’t been turned in, then there will be a pause on roof grants.
In other business, council approved the reappointment of Josh Hileman, Jerry Schleper and Kevin Weber to the Jerseyville Public Library Board, and road closures near the water tower for the Saturday, July 4, Rock the Block Concert.
