The Pittsfield City Council went into closed session at the Dec. 20 meeting to discuss the sale of property. Thirty-six minutes later the council returned to open session and moved to adjourn. No action was taken on any sales.
There are several potential projects in the city that could necessitate the sale of property.
Mayor Gary Mendenhall told the council he and Ed Knight, the city’s economic development director, had been working with a couple of individuals concerning potential development projects.
“I can’t divulge any details now, but there are some serious conversations going on,” Mendenhall said.
The city also heard an update on the well project.
The city had planned to add a new well to their well field, near Rockport. One of the three wells had stopped working, putting undue pressure on the other two.
“But, as the company we hired to dig the third well, was digging, the well caved in,” Mendenhall said.
Max Middendorf, the city engineer in charge of the project, told the council the parts had been ordered and should be in before the end of the year. The collapse will not cause any additional cost to the project, according to Mendenhall.
It was also announced that signs recognizing the seventh grade girls basketball team for winning the state championship game and the eighth grade for finishing third in the state tournament have been ordered and will be placed on highways leading into Pittsfield.
Alderman Robert Richard noted that many road signs and poles within the city need attention. Mendenhall assured him a list was being compiled and the repairs/replacements will be made.
Bids for the Memorial/Fair Streets intersection will be opened Jan. 5. The intersection is just the first of many that compromise the route for buses between schools to be repaired. The city is hoping to repair the intersections with concrete.
