The Pittsfield City Council said an emotional goodbye to city attorney Mike Hollahan who is retiring at the end of the year. The December 5 meeting was his last as city attorney, although he technically will be on call through the end of the year.
Keisha Morris will be his replacement.
After several meetings and discussions, the city of Pittsfield has addressed the chicken issue.
The council, voted to limit the number of chickens to 12 and allow no roosters.
The council voted on the ordinance and it passed unanimously.
Also passing unanimously was Christmas bonuses for the employees. Each full-time employee and permanent part-time employee will receive $450 for a Christmas bonus. The city has 26 full-time employees and 3 permanent part-time employees.
The talk of bonus brought up the question of salary ranges. Each job in the city has a salary range set in the policy manual.
“ With the cost of living raise the employees get in the spring and the performance-based raises given at evaluations, some employees are going exceed the maximum salary,” Beth White, alderman and chairman of the finance committee, said.
The council agreed that this would be rectified.
Entities asking the city council for donations, will now have to fill out a form providing information on the request.
“They will have to give a name, and for what the money is going to be used,” White said.
Mayor Gary Mendenhall reminded everyone of the Dec. 22 deadline to bid on trucks and tools for the city’s yard sale. Bids for properties the city has included in the sale will be accepted until Jan. 26.
