The Carrollton School Board, at its Aug. 19 meeting, approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Carrollton Education Association addressing new hires in the district.
“This MOU was for tuition for those teachers who are working on additional endorsements or licensure areas,” Carrollton Superintendent Jason Bauer said. “It also allows for up to 25 hours of mentoring for new teachers to the district and also allows us to spend up to $5,000 if we decide to recruit an international candidate. This money could be used for their Visa or air fair or even help with housing.”
The board also approved an intergovernmental transportation agreement with Calhoun School District.
“Calhoun has a couple of kids that go to Garrison in Jacksonville,” Bauer said. “This agreement allows Calhoun to drop those students off at Carrollton and we will take them, along with our own students attending Garrison. It is just a shared transportation agreement to help one another out.”
Bauer addressed the board on the tentative budget that is now on display.
“This budget is really tentative,” Bauer said. “I am going to have a finance committee meeting on the Tuesday before the budget hearing on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. The final version of the budget will be presented at 6:45 on Monday, Sept. 23 before the regular board meeting.”
Also, before this meeting, Bauer said they will be holding a new teacher reception at the grade school commons so the board can meet the new teachers in the district.
The district got their solar project up and running this summer, but there are times when the district will still have to purchase electricity.
“When we have to buy electricity, we have to have a supplier that has to supply it,” Bauer said. “We signed a 24 month contract with Constellation for anything we would need beyond the solar energy. We are hoping we don’t have to buy any, but at this point we are just seeing how much solar energy it is going to produce.”
The board accepted the resignation of long-time board member Tammy Weber. Bauer said Weber didn’t state a reason for the resignation in her letter. The district is seeking to fill her seat on the board.
