Quincy Medical Group (QMG) and the QMG Foundation have partnered with 2×4’s For Hope for the next tiny home for a local veteran. The organizations will host a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new home on Thursday, Nov 11, at 10 a.m. at 2nd and Spruce St in Quincy.
QMG and the QMG Foundation are providing financial support for the completion of the home. Quincy Park District donated the land for the home in early 2021. Representatives from all organizations will be in attendance.
In addition to the donation from QMG and the QMG Foundation, several QMG employees donated boards for the home, each with a special message. In March of 2021, QMG chose 2×4’s For Hope as the recipient of the organization’s monthly Acts of Kindness initiative. Participating QMG employees donated $5 for two 2×4 boards to be used to build a home for homeless and at-risk veterans.
QMG Director of Community Relations Morgan Parker said the mission of 2×4’s For Hope is one QMG and the QMG Foundation is happy to support.
“Being part of a build day has been something QMG has wanted to do and be involved with for a long time. The opportunity presented itself with our Acts of Kindness program to support the work of 2×4’s For Hope,” she said.
2×4’s For Hope, a 501(c)(3) global organization founded by Mark and Chris Lawrence in May 2015, helps build homes for homeless and at-risk veterans. Each home (576 square feet) costs approximately $65,300 to construct, and all of the labor is provided by about 100 community volunteers, as well as the veteran who will receive the fully furnished home. The exterior of the home is typically built in two days, and takes about seven to complete the entire project, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the eighth day.
“To be involved with this project means so much knowing that we are able to house an at-risk or homeless Veteran and possibly a few family members after everything they have done for our country,” Parker said.
Build day for the home is scheduled for June 11–12, 2022.
