Library Board President Amy Turpin draws out the winner of the Hometown Basket with merchandise and gift certificates worth over $600. Greene County Days royalty Jr. Miss Leah Wood and Lydia Lansaw were chosen to hold the tin while Turpin drew out the name.
It was a busy Saturday morning at the Greenfield Public Library as it was not only their 31st Anniversary Celebration, but it was also the Basket Raffle drawing.
There was a total of 31 baskets raffled off ranging anywhere from a plate of delicious homemade cookies to the piece de resistance – the Hometown Basket offered by the Library Board which contained over $600 worth of merchandise and gift certificates from local merchants. This basket was the library’s way of saying thank you for the patronage from the community over the years.
There was non-stop traffic in the library as everyone made their way in to get their last minute entries in for all of the different baskets. One woman, 15 minutes before the winners were to be drawn at noon, came in and purchased $100 worth of tickets. Somehow, she managed to get all of her 100 plus tickets done with two minutes to spare.
The Hometown Basket was drawn for last. There must have been at least 500 tickets in the large popcorn tin that held the tickets. After the tin was well shaken, the Greene County Days (GCD) Royalty –Miss GCD Lydia Lansaw and Jr. Miss GCD Leah Wood held the tin while Library Board President Amy Turpin drew out the winning name – Becky Terpening of Greenfield.

Jade Bishop in the reading area playing with some blocks and probably hoping she will win some of the baskets she put tickets in on. Actually, she did win a basket. As did her mom and brother. One might say the Bishop family “cleaned up” on the raffle this year.
