Velma Mae Goewey | 96 | Bloomington, IL

Velma Mae Goewey, 96, of Bloomington, IL and formerly of Pleasant Hill, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2022 at Heritage Manor in Bloomington.Velma was born Aug. 23, 1925 in Mozier, a daughter of Charles and Azubah Fuller Burge. She married Marion Lavere Goewey on May 31, 1944 in Pittsfield and he preceded her in death on April 28, 2008.
Velma was employed by the White Cat Popcorn Company in Calhoun County. She was a member of the former Pleasant Hill Church of Christ.
Surviving is a son, Marion Lee Goewey of Towanda, three grandchildren, Laura Goewey, Amber Beck and Todd Goewey and six great grandchildren.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Michael Ray Goewey and James A. Goewey, a brother, Ray Burge and two sisters, Melissa Guthrie and Anna Lee Walker.
The family met with friends on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. No formal services are planned. Burial will be private at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
