Extension offers pond management seminar

Aquatic weeds, fish stocking, pond ecology and pond maintenance will be the focus of a University of Illinois Extension seminar on March 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Nimrod Funk Building, 401 North Walnut in Winchester.

Speakers from Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Illinois Extension will discuss how to manage aquatic plants using chemical, biological and mechanical methods and timing of chemical applications. Other topics will include oxygen levels in ponds, pond maintenance, how temperatures affect oxygen levels, whether ponds may have had a winter fish kill, and proper fish stocking rates for farm ponds.
