I am happy to report this Monday that we had warm spring-like weather last week. Near 70 most every day, except Saturday when it was rainy, windy and only upper 50’s. Farmers are already busy in the fields, hope warm temperatures are here to stay.
Congratulations to James and Lindsey Tapp of Maryville, IL on the birth of a son. The infant, weighing 7 lbs 8 ozs, and born on March 9, has been given the name, Maverick Stephen. Big brother, Lincoln, is 20 months old. Grandparents are Steve and Susan Rose of Golden Eagle and Jim and Mary Tapp of Granite City. Great grandparents are Jack and JoAnn Kirn, of Golden Eagle, and Mary Lee (and the late Bob) Rose of Brussels.
Congratulations to Stacy Wooten of Jerseyville who won the whole hog, with processing, at the Jaycees Raffle Drawing Sunday night at A.J.’s in Brussels. This fundraiser, sponsored by Jersey Calhoun Jaycees, was to benefit the Calhoun County Ambulance Service. Many thanks to all who participated. They reported on Monday that along with the raffle and 50/50 they were able to raise $4,326. With those funds the ambulance service will be able to purchase CPR equipment that they need in order to pass inspections. A big shout out to Eric Hiatt, 2022 IL Jaycees State President, along with Trevor, Mike and other Jaycees from Alhambra, IL for making the trip to Calhoun to support the Jersey-Calhoun Chapter.
Tom and Pennie Pohlman of Brussels, Emil and Cindy Kuhn of Golden Eagle and Ronnie and Donna Kinder of Edwardsville vacationed recently in Key West, FL. While there they visited Pennie and Ronnie’s cousin, Jim Oettle, formerly from Calhoun. Enroute home they drove to High Point, Nouth Carolina and visited with Tom’s brother Frank and wife Dottie Pohlman. The trip was also to celebrate Ronnie and Donna’s 55th wedding anniversary. Many more “happy ones” to them! Sounds like they all had a great time!
George and Yvonne Baecht had visitors the past week. Their son Daniel, wife LeeAnn and son Conner Baecht of Springfield, MO. drove in on Saturday, March 12th. LeeAnn’s job had her detailed to St. Louis for most of the week so Daniel and Conner helped George and Yvonne with lots of outdoor work. One day LeeAnn and Conner, along with Becky Baecht and Samuel of Jerseyville spent the day in Hannibal. There they enjoyed visiting Mark Twain’s Home and Cave along with other historical landmarks in that area. The Baecht’s returned home on Friday.
Friday visitors of Virginia Murphy of Golden Eagle were her sister, Melba Hendricks and her daughters Barb, Brenda and Beverly. They brought a complete meal for everyone to enjoy and afterwards had a wonderful afternoon of visiting.
A Bridal Shower was held on Saturday to honor Jessica “Jesse” Romano, daughter of Doug and Trish Romano of Edwardsville. Jesse and her fiancée Alec Holloway will be wed on Friday, May 13. The bridal shower was held at the Elks Lodge in Arnold, MO. Among those attending from Calhoun were Jesse’ grandmother Bernadine Hillen of Meppen and her aunt Laura Hazelwonder of Hardin. Grandma Bernadine presented her with a beautiful handmade quilt.
