Two Pittsfield businesses have recently announced satellite locations to their anchor businesses.
Brewed Coffee House & Eatery announced that it would be opening three drive-through locations in Griggsville, Barry, and Pittsfield, and clothing boutique Reap + Sow has indicated it is opening a new location in Hannibal, Mo.
According to Brewed owner Robert Brewer, the new Griggsville location of Brewed will open first, and it will be located at the former Drive-In restaurant on South Wall Street. Brewer said that while the business will feature a drive-through, indoor seating will be retained at the site.
“We’re going to put an addition on the front of it,” Brewer said. “There will still be seating inside.”
Brewer added that Brewed was attempting to complement existing businesses in Griggsville, without creating undo competition with Teddy’s and Rumors Have It.
“I don’t want to be a bar,” Brewer said. “We’re going to do breakfast all the time. A lot of people want breakfast all the time. I think there’s a market without interfering with the businesses uptown.”
The opening of the Barry Brewed, to be located at 915 State Hwy. 106, is farther off, pending construction schedules and state approvals.
“I think it will be six months at least before we get going in Barry,” Brewer said. “IDOT has to come in and look at where traffic may back up and where the egress is.”
The new Pittsfield drive-through site, according to Brewer, is still pending, but Brewed intends to keep its current site open on the west side of the square.
“We always want to keep that,” Brewer said. “It would be hard to replicate.”
Brewer said that he hopes the expansion of Brewed to new locations benefits both his business and the quality of life in the county.
“We just want to continue what we started,” Brewer said. “It’s just about growing and growing Pike County. We want to give back and make the community better.”
Meanwhile, fellow Madison Street business Reap + Sow is planning to open a second location in Hannibal, Mo. as soon as May.
“I’ve got the building picked out at 219 N. Main St.,” Reap + Sow owner Kacie Lipcaman said. “We’re looking at opening in May. It’s been in the works for about a month.”
According to Lipcaman, the second location in Hannibal was prompted by the frequency of Hannibal customers shopping at Reap + Sow’s Pittsfield’s location, as well as Lipcaman’s affinity for the community of Hannibal. Lipcaman credits the strong support of her customers for the business’s growth.
“We have several customers that come from Hannibal,” Lipcaman said. “Hannibal reminds of the Pittsfield charm. I love the feeling that small towns are being made into tourist destinations. I think we have an amazing space for women. Thanks to our loyal customers in Pittsfield, we’re able to broaden our reach and do the same in Hannibal.”
Lipcaman added that the high amount of visitors and customers in downtown Hannibal encouraged her to add a location at that location.
“Just the amount of foot traffic there is insane – even on a Tuesday,” Lipcaman said.
Lipcaman emphasized that she intends to keep her location in Pittsfield and that she prizes her stores location on the courthouse square.
“We’re just adding to what we already have,” Lipcaman said. “I want that spot forever. That’s, like, the prime location in Pittsfield.”
