The Apple Creek Prairie Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), met Sunday afternoon, March 6, to honor the winners of their American History essay contest. The three winners are all students at St. John’s School in Carrollton. Each of the honored students read their essay and introduced the family who attended the ceremony with them.
The winner for sixth grade was Henry Nattier, son of Josh and Nice Nattier. The winner for the seventh grade was Alexis Martin, daughter of Brandi Martin. The eighth grade winner was Elijah Cox, son of Clifton and Melissa Cox. All are Carrollton residents.
Following refreshments, members of the chapter held a brief business meeting there in the fellowship hall of Christ United Methodist Church in White Hall. Keith Muntz, father of member Doris Vestel, had died; he spoke to the chapter a few years ago about his experiences as a Prisoner of War (POW) in World War II. Members were reminded to keep track of service hours and of conservation measures they undertake.
The chapter met again on Saturday, April 2, again at the Christ UMC in White Hall. Fifth District Director Patricia Boldt was a guest. She spoke on “New Beginnings.” Program planning was done for the 2022-2023 chapter year. Mrs. Anthony Gresham distributed a list of items that are needed at the Quincy Veterans’ Home. Those will be collected at the May 8 meeting.
District 5 will hold their annual spring meeting at the Jacksonville Country Club on Wednesday, June 1.
