The Winchester Girls on the Run team will be traveling to Springfield on May 14 to take part in the season-ending 5K run after spending the past seven weeks working hard learning skills and life lessons through running.
Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program designed to enhance girls’ social, emotional and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. The program’s intentional curriculum places an emphasis on developing competence, confidence, connection, character, caring and contribution in young girls through lessons that incorporate running and other physical activities.
There are two different age groups – the third through fifth grade division and the sixth through eighth grade division. The Winchester team is the third through fifth grade division and is being coached by Krysta Coon, Megan Little and Lori Ballard.
Anyone is welcome to join the girls in the 5K on Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. in Springfield. To join in the run, go to. www.gotrcentralillinois.org and go to registernow.
