The Calhoun Warriors softball team participated in the Triad Softball Tournament this past weekend. The Warriors played three games, against the Highland Bulldogs, Glenwood Titans and Columbia Eagles on Saturday, May 7.
The Warriors first fell to the Highland Bulldogs 2-0. The Bulldogs went on to win the overall tournament.
Their next matchup was not kind to the Warriors, who fell to the Glenwood Titans 12-0. The first inning set the tone of the game to come, with the Titans scoring four right out the gate. The Titans continued in the top of the second with four more runs and kept the Warriors scoreless. The third inning showed more cracks in the Warriors’ defense, who allowed two runs and two more in the top of the fourth.
Despite their defeat in the first game, the Warriors got back to work against the Columbia Eagles. The first inning saw both teams score one run apiece to tie the game going into the second inning.
The Warriors broke the tie in the top of the second with two runs, taking a 3-1 lead. The game stayed scoreless for the remaining innings, with the Warriors securing their sole win of the tournament.
The Warriors maintain an overall 20-7 season record and an 8-1 conference record. Their next game is at home on Friday May 13 against the Gillespie Miners.
