$13,000 in Health Scholarships awarded by Health and Wellness Foundation of Pike County

The Health and Wellness Foundation of Pike County (HWFPC) has announced the recipients of their 2022 health scholarships to Pike County students seeking to pursue degrees in health or wellness related professions. This year, HWFPC Board of Directors has awarded a $1000 Scholarship to every one of the eleven applicants. In addition, for the first time they also awarded an individual with the $2000 Dr. James Grote Post-graduate Scholarship. In total $13,000 was awarded to Pike County students.
Of this year’s scholarship awards HWFPC Executive Director Patricia McIntosh said, “our scholarship program continues to play a significant role as part of our mission to serve the health needs and disparities in Pike County. As the need for health professionals in every discipline continues to intensify, we can help alleviate that disparity while financially assisting Pike County students to acheive their educational goals. HWFPC is immensely gratified to be able to recognize and reward all of this year’s exceptional individuals – we wish them every success as they pursue their education in the field of health!”
The Foundation’s Scholarship Program was created to encourage and aid Pike County students electing to pursue degrees in health-related field and has expanded over the years to offer scholar-ships to: graduating high school seniors, those already in college, those pursuing post-graduate degrees, and those who are already in the workplace seeking to add to their educational background. HWFPC’s Scholarship program is intended to alleviate the financial burden associated with college studies, specifically in health or allied-health related fields of study.
Recipients of the Foundation’s 2022 Health Scholarships include the following individuals:
The John S. Teuscher Health Occupation Scholarship, established in 2005 commemorates John S. Teuscher, its founding Board Chair and annually awards two $1000 scholarships to graduating Pike County seniors seeking degrees in the field of health. All applicants of this Scholarship were awarded, and include:
• Adileigh West, Pittsfield High School, who will be attending the Illinois State University, pursuing a BSN in Nursing.
• Claire Tate, Griggsville-Perry High School, who will be attending Southern Illinois University Edwardsville pursing a degree in Biology, Pre-Dentistry.
• Olivia Campbell, Western High School, who will be attending Southern Illinois University Edwardsville pursing a degree in Psychology.
• Caden Casto, Pittsfield High School, who will be attending Monmouth University, pursing a degree in Physical Therapy.
• Phillip Graham, Pittsfield High School, who will be attending University of Illinois Springfield, pursing a degree in Chemistry, Pre Med.
• Carter Klatt, Pittsfield High School, who will be attending John Wood Community College, pursing a BSN in Nursing.
• Raegan Smithers, Pittsfield High School, who will be attending University of Illinois Chicago, pursing a BSN in Nursing.
• Taylor Scott, Pittsfield High School, who will be attending John Wood Community College, pursing a BSN in Nursing.
• Mattison McCartney, Pittsfield High School, who will be attending John Wood Community College, pursing a BSN in Nursing.
The Allan A. Seiler Scholarship, established in 2011 annually awards one $300 scholarship to a Pike County senior pursuing a degree in a fitness or wellness-related field. This year the recipient was awarded a $1000 scholarship, and is:
• Terry (T.J.) Reel, Pittsfield High School, who will be attending Southern Illinois University Edwardsville pursing a degree in Physical Education.
The John S. Teuscher Continuing Education Scholarship awards a $1000 Scholarship to an individual already pursuing an undergraduate degree in a health field. The 2022 recipient is:
• Cherise Anderson, a graduate of Pittsfield High School, currently attending Bradley University, Peoria, IL, pursuing a Bachelor of Science, Pre Med.
Dr. James Grote Post-Graduate Degree Scholarship, was created in 2021 to honor a founding Board member for his years of commitment to HWFPC’s mission. It annually awards $2000 to an individual pursuing a post-graduate degree in a heath profession. The 2022 recipient is:
• Jordan Brite: a graduate of Griggsville Perry High School, currently pursuing a Masters Degree at McKendree University, Lebanon, IL, pursuing a degree in Athletic Training.
