Dewey Davis says Pleasant Hill has been good to him. And he has been good for Pleasant Hill.
Davis, 90, has been chosen as the parade marshal of the 2022 Pleasant Hill 4th of July parade.
Davis grew up in Pleasant Hill, having been born near Six-Mile.
“I went to Pleasant Hill school,” Davis said. “I served in the Air Force from 1951-1955.”
After his discharge from the Air Force, Davis worked a while at McDonnell Aircrafts and then returned to Pleasant Hill.
“I started Davis Oil Company and had three service stations,” Davis said.
One of the few bad spots in Davis’ Pleasant Hill life was one of his stations, currently the FS Station on Quincy Street, was robbed three times. Davis started a drive to hire a police officer full time.
The city hired Chris Dolbeare and crime slowed down in the village.
“I’ve been a member of the Legion, the Lions and the First Baptist Church as well as helping out the community in different ways when asked,” he said.
He has two daughters who live in Pleasant Hill, Diane (Don) Carlton and Chris (Mike) Hausmann.
“I like Pleasant Hill,” Davis said. “I think it is a nice, quiet, little town. We’ve had no mass shootings and that’s a plus.”
