On Aug. 21, 1912, the first Chautauqua took place at Nichols Park. The big tent went up, music played, speeches and lectures took place on a wooden stage. For a whole week, hundreds of people came to see and experience the show while camping on the grounds. We are happy to announce that we are bringing back this tradition. On Sept. 2 and 3, the big event returns to Nichols Park Pavilion (720 E. Vandalia Rd., Jacksonville). “Celebrating Our Chautauqua, 1912-1930” is the theme. This is a free event that is open to everyone, with family-oriented entertainment for all ages. This year we have music, history, food trucks and a children’s show. Fun for the whole family will be provided. As we take a glimpse into the history of the Jacksonville Chautauqua and our host, Nicholas Park. This will be the biggest event of the year, and we want you to be a part of it. To see the line up at www.morgancountyillinoishistory.com, under Events.
