The Hardin Village Board approved a proposed resolution from Dick Lieber on behalf of the Calhoun County Swimming Pool Association to apply for a grant for improvements to the pool.
After closing early for the summer, Lieber discussed the future of the Calhoun swimming pool at this month’s Village Board meeting.
Lieber said the pool association attempted to make repairs on the pool since closing, but deemed it inoperable after continuing to find leaks and plumbing issues.
With limited funds, Lieber presented the board with information on a grant of up to $600,000 through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, requesting the board submit an application.
The proposed application included repairs as well as upgrades to the pool. Upgrades would include an American with Disability Act compliant parking lot and lifts in the pool, and the possibility of a splash pad and slide.
If the application is approved, improvements would require the pool to be closed for next summer, but would reopen the following summer Lieber said.
Other business at the September board meeting including setting a date for Trunk or Treat, which will take place on Monday, Oct. 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Several items were tabled until the next meeting due to delays with funds coming from a previous IDNR buyout.
Items put on hold included the possible gifting of river front property to the village, construction bids for the Public Works building and dates for clean up days.
Before closing the meeting, multiple citizens addressed the board concerning recurring drug activity at a set of apartments, and the possibility of ordinances that could help to prevent the crimes and hold occupants and landlords more accountable.
The board acknowledged the issues and the near constant police presence at the apartments, and said they have been looking at ordinances and housing statutes, but would try to contact the landlord directly before taking any sort of further action.
The next board meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 10, before returning to the second Wednesday of every month in November.
