The Kampsville Village Board of Trustees held their September meeting on Monday, Sept. 12, due to Labor Day falling on the first Monday of the month. The board made decisions regarding Halloween and discussed filling a vacancy on the board, among other business.
Trustee Jen Roth mentioned, as they approved the minutes from the previous meeting, that it was a sad reminder that the last time they were all in a meeting together, Trustee Mike Johnson was still with them.
It saddens Mayor Wade Gibson and the Village Trustees, but per state standards they have 60 days to fill the seat vacated by the passing of Johnson. Therefore, it will be necessary at the next board meeting to appoint someone to fill that seat until the next Village election.
After approval of minutes, bills and treasurers report they discussed old business.
According to the board, Kampsville is at a standstill right now with their Flood Buyout properties. They are hoping that by the end of September, they will have received some of the buyout money, so they can then proceed with the next step in this process.
The board discussed, from the previous meeting, about hooking onto Rural Water for emergency use.
“At this time it was decided not to hook up to Rural Water at this time. As it is currently not financially possible for the Village,” said Mayor Gibson.
Gibson reported to the board that ditch cleaning and bridge repairs for Farrow Cemetery as well as other street repairs will begin shortly, as they are currently working out the details with Kyle Godar.
It was reported by Village Clerk Jodi Becker that the new water meters should start being delivered in the first part of November, so installation on the new meters can begin.
In new business, Trunk-or-Treat will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Kampsville Ball Diamond, with a Halloween party to follow in the Center for American Archeology Gym.
Trick-or-Treat Hours were set for Monday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Before adjourning the meeting, Mayor Gibson, Trustees and visitors attending observed 60 seconds of silence in honor of Trustee Johnson.
The Kampsville Village Board of Trustees meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall.
