Two Greene County young men face a myriad of charges after an attempted traffic stop in Hardin went awry.
According to a press release from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Route 100 near North Side Grocery on a 2008 GMC black truck on Sept. 23 at approximately 10:21 p.m.
The driver of the truck, Eric D. Brown, 20, of White Hall, refused to stop, increased his speed and then fled from deputies leading them on a high speed chase.
The truck continued northbound on Route 100, passing Calhoun High School at speeds near 100 miles per hour with the deputies continuing pursuit. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Route 100 in Michael.
The traffic stop and subsequent investigation then resulted in the arrest of the driver, Brown, for the following offenses:
■ Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.
■ DUI – Alcohol, DUI – Alcohol (over 0.08).
■ Illegal Transportation of Alcoholic Beverage by Driver.
■ Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol Under 21.
■ Speeding.
■ Reckless Driving.
■ Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
■ Improper Lane Usage.
■ Improper Vehicle Lighting.
■ Improper Passing.
The traffic stop also resulted in the arrest of a passenger in Brown’s vehicle, Koal A. Smith, 18, of White Hall for the following offenses:
■ Aggravated Battery of a Police Officer.
■ Resisting Arrest.
■ Illegal Transportation of Alcoholic Beverage – Passenger.
■ Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol Under 21.
Both subjects were transported to the Greene County Jail.
