On Friday, Sept. 30, Pittsfield Save-A-Lot’s Chris Sitton retired after a decades-long career overseeing the store’s operations. A hallmark of Sitton’s career was her community involvement and fundraising efforts for law enforcement and fire protection agencies. Because of Sitton’s crucial community involvement over the decades, Pittsfield Mayor Gary Mendenhall pronounced that Sept. 30 was to be marked as ‘Chris Sitton Day’ in the City of Pittsfield. In addition to contributing to the efforts of first responders, Sitton contributed significantly to the Chamber of Commerce, school organizations, and many other community and nonprofit/charitable organizations. Mendenhall made the pronouncement during Sitton’s retirement open house at Save-A-Lot on Friday.
