John Wise
For the second time in two months, a Pittsfield High School graduate has been named to the Illinois Hall of Fame for his sport.
John Wise is the latest to be inducted. Wise said he was notified a couple of months ago that he would be joining the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame.
“I got a phone call telling me about it,” Wise said. “I told my wife and she didn’t believe me. She thought I was messing with her.”
Wise, a 2004 graduate of Pittsfield High School was a two-time state champion and also was a runner-up a third year while wrestling for the Saukees. He went on to wrestle for the University of Illinois and was named All-American his final year.
Wise said he owed a big thanks to his coaches, teachers, family and Saukee Nation.
“I couldn’t have done it without the love and support from family and community,” Wise said.
Wise said it is his understanding this year’s inductees to the hall will be honored at the state wrestling tournament this year.
Wise is a plant manager for a Nutrien facility in Galva. He and his wife, Ellie, have three children.
Tim Fischer, a standout basketball player for the Saukees in the 80s, was inducted into the Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame late last year
