The Pike County Rotary Club recently received a Rotary Literacy Grant for $1,500. With that money, the club will be purchasing reading books for the students who participate in the snack pack, the take-home weekend food bags programs in the PIkeland, Griggsville-Perry, and Western School districts.
Books will be sent home in the food bags during the month of February.
Rotary members, Paula Hawley, Megan Vose, and Bill Durall were at the snack pack headquarters Monday helping fill the bags and adding the book.
“We packed 54 bags with books,” Hawley said. “ Books were also delivered to Western and Griggsville-Perry last week.”
Hawley said in total approximately 140 children in the three districts received books last week. That total cost was $1,775.
