The Greenfield School Board didn’t have much on their agenda for the Feb. 27 meeting, but one of the main highlights was honoring and congratulating the one senior who was named an Illinois State Scholar this year. That honor went to Kylie Kinser.
Illinois State Scholars represent approximately the top 10 percent of high school seniors from across the state and recipients are chosen each year based on a combination of ACT or SAT test scores and grade point average and class rank at the end of the sixth semester.
The board also recognized the Yearbook Class and its sponsor, Angie Brown. The Yearbook Class received an award this year from Walsworth Yearbook for continually demonstrating superior quality yearbooks.
Ron Plogger had several items to report on regarding the district’s facilities and transportation report.
He reported that the remodel has started on the district office and that the new locks have been installed on all of the doors in the district. Measurements have been taken for the concrete for the bus garage addition. The new activity bus has still not arrived and Lambs is still working on the football field entrance.
Board member Elliott Turpin had some excellent news to report regarding the Greenfield Foundation for Educational Excellence.
He reported that their current balance is $31,079.42 and that scholarship applications will be available soon. A donation was made to the Greenfield High School After Prom and several mini grant applications were considered and approved. The annual spring pork chop dinner will be held on March 19 and the next meeting will be held on March 15.
The Greene County Economic Development Group presented information to the board on the Greene County Broadband Proposal.
