Pictured above is Julie Rhoads, (second to left) Board Member of Illinois Electric Cooperative presenting a check to the Veterans Freedom Walkway Committee – Gene Todd; Bernadette Faul; Earlene Castleberry, Greene County Board Member; Carol Witt, Gary Witt; Bob Shannon; Terry Gross, and back row Luke Smith. Illinois Electric Member’s Fund recently donated $10,000 to the Veterans Freedom Walkway to assist with the construction of the memorial project. Any veterans with a connection to the area is eligible to have their names on the stones. This is for past, present and future veterans.
This donation was made possible by participating Illinois Electric members paying an even dollar amount on their bill. For example, if the bill is $133.42, the member will pay an even $134, with the 58 cents in this example going to the Member’s Fund. In all about 4,800 accounts participate by contributing to the fund. The Fund uses these proceeds to benefit activities throughout the Cooperative’s service area. Since March 2000, the fund has distributed $861,000 to local schools, hospitals, churches, service clubs and charities.
