Carrollton City Council has set their clean-up days this year for the third week of May. To be more specific, Wednesday, May 17, through Saturday, May 20.
“We wanted to get it set now so it will give Marty (Gross) two months to put it on the back of the water bills so everyone will know about it,” Carrollton Mayor Mike Snyder said. “The one thing I would like to see us do different this year is have it open longer on Saturday.”
Carrollton does not have curbside pick-up like they do in the North Greene area. Instead, residents have to take their stuff to the city shed where a dumpster is located. Someone is located at this site from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday and, last year from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. This year, at the Mayor’s request, that time was changed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, giving residents an extra two hours on Saturday to get their items hauled down there.
With both trash services selling out (Area is now GFL and Bob Sanders is now Republic), Director of Public Works Steve Rosentreter said he has talked to both companies and the service as far as coming and trading out dumpsters when they are full, will not be as good as it has been in the past.
“Before, we could just call Sanders and they would just come right down and pick it up,” Rosentreter said. “This year, I talked to a guy from Republic and he said to call him before 3 and he would try to be there by noon the following day. GFL never got back with us.”
On a more positive not, Rosentreter said the cost is going to be $400 per dumpster, which is down a little bit from last year.
The city will take small appliances and for those who need pickup, they can call city hall and arrange for them to be picked up for a fee of $20. No building materials will be allowed. Also, no tires, paint cans or anything with freon.
